Our Heritage is one of our greatest assets. We can help you learn, enjoy and benefit from this sustainable resource. We offer a range of Heritage services to schools, communities and business across Ireland. See below for details

Heritage Event Management-        We can organise a Heritage event for your community, business or agency. In 2011 we organised the Cashel Walled Town Day Festival and provided a range of family based activities celebrating medieval Cashel. We can organise food, music and heritage themed entertainment from fire jugglers and medieval knights to face painting and archaeology workshops at any venue in Ireland. We work with the Heritage Council and the Irish Walled Towns Network and specialise in providing events that celebrate our rich archaeological and built heritage. We can organise events to suit your budget, from battle re-enactments to medieval pipers to workshops and demonstrations of blacksmithing, archery, pottery, weaving, heraldry, falconry and many more. An integral part of our Heritage event services is our Archaeology & Heritage Road Show.

Archaeology & Heritage Road Show-            We also can bring our road show to your festival or event. We can tailor our workshops, activities and information desks to your particular location or theme. We offer a wide range of displays, activities and workshops for all ages. One of our most popular activities for children is our “dig in a box” where you and your child can experience the thrill of discovery in a mock up of an archaeological dig. This safe, fun and educational activity is a perennial favourite. We also provide displays of reproduction archaeological objects; from prehistoric bronze axes to medieval brooches and from flint arrowheads to animal skeletons. We can arrange a multimedia display slide show on archaeological excavations and have a digital workshop where we show people the archaeological and heritage sites near where they live. We have workshops on digital and optical survey, geophysics and forensic archaeology. Think CSI meets Team Team! We bring the past to life for you and can tailor make a package to suit your needs and budget in any venue indoor or outside. All of our staff who work with children have Garda clearance. In 2011 the road show took part in several Heritage festivals including at Cork city, Clonmel and Kilmallock.

Heritage and Archaeology in Schools-          We organise fun educational events for primary and secondary schools. We will design an experience to suit your particular needs. We offer educational slideshows and talks, hands on demonstrations of reproduction artefacts and archaeological objects from pottery, stone axes (blunt ones of course) to antler and animal bones. We let the children get their hands on the tools and equipment used on archaeology sites in a controlled excavation mock up. We have workshops on optical and digital survey, forensic archaeology including skeletal and microscopic analysis of plant remains. We ensure that the event is keyed into the strands in the curriculum. We offer part and full day events and are continually updating our displays and workshops. All of our staff who work with children have Garda clearance. We can also help schools design a heritage or archaeology themed project for your transition year students. Call us to find out more.

“Wolfhound Archaeology certainly have an enthusiasm for archaeology and it came across to all who visited the archaeology road show. As part of the overall celebrations of Cork City’s Medieval Day, the finds information desk and open desk format added an extra dimension to the medieval re-enactments and weapons display. The opportunity to speak to real archaeologists and to hear and see what they do on an excavation appealed to a wide audience. The Dig-in-a-box in particular was a very enjoyable and informative event for the children (and their parents!) who took part. The staff of Wolfhound Archaeology are very friendly and communicated well with both adults and children."

"I would have no hesitation in recommending Wolfhound Archaeology.”

Ciara Brett MA, MIAI, Cork City Archaeologist

Cashel Walled Town Day was an excellent event with a high educational value. What I liked was the way that people were really getting into the activities such as archaeological excavation or medieval archery. Everyone was smiling. It was great to see that you don’t have to dumb down to make learning about the past enjoyable, you just have to be smart about how you do it. And the organisers in Cashel were.”

Liam Mannix, National Project Manager for the Irish Walled Town Network quoted in The Nationalist newspaper, July 2011
